My first impressions of this novel are that this book is gonna be very good. The story line is good and the way there culture is different from ours.
The igbo culture is very interesting and there language is different.
In there culture being rich is not determined by how much money you have its by how many wives they have and there titles.
One way there culture is similar to ours is the way they value the age of there elders.
JOURNAL PROMPT 2.
I think the igbo define masculinity by how many heads you have taken in battle and how many wives you have.
Us as americans define masculinity by how you act as a person.
I think the way the women are treated in there culture is more like a possession and less like a person this doesn't make me have any feeling because its there culture not mine.
In chapter 11, Achebe includes the story of the tortoise. What was the moral of this story? Why would Achebe include this story here? What are some fables that we have in our culture? How are they similar? Different?
The moral to this story is dont be greedy. To teach him a lesson. Some fables we have in our cultures are the tortoise and the hair teaching that slow and steady wins the race. They are sort of similar because they have the same character but there different because the morals of the fables are different.
